about

Natalia Tomala

Product designer
for internal tools and e-commerce

I start from business goals and user research, and design side by side with engineers and the client. That's how a 30-minute internal task dropped to 3, a travel e-commerce got its design system, and an app I built with AI reached the App Store in 5 days.

After hours

I've loved building websites since I was a kid. I started playing with HTML and CSS in middle school, back in Tumblr's heyday, and today I get to be a Product Designer, turning my passion into my job (what more could I want?!). Outside work, I have plenty of smaller and bigger hobbies…

How I work

Double Diamond, adjusted to how much is unknown. Most of my time goes into the first diamond: research, data and one clearly defined problem. With that in place, the second diamond moves fast, in small releases tested with users and checked against data.

  1. 01Discover

Interviews, usability tests, analytics and support data before the first pixel.

    User interviews · Maze · Hotjar · GA4

  2. 02Define

One clear problem, who it affects, and how we'll know it's solved.

FigJam · Miro · Journey maps

  3. 03Develop

Flows and wireframes checked with developers first, then UI on a shared design system.

Figma · Design systems · Prototypes

  4. 04Deliver

Phased releases, QA reviews with developers and metrics from day one.

    QA reviews · A/B tests · PostHog

Where AI fits

  • Synthesis: NotebookLM and Claude help me sort interview notes and reviews faster. The conclusions stay mine.
  • Prototypes: with Claude Code, Cursor or v0, a clickable or working prototype is ready for a test in hours, not weeks.
  • Handoff: I know HTML, CSS, React and Next.js well enough to discuss implementation with developers and catch problems before they ship.

Workshops

Workshops I ran for the team

When I joined CodeYourBrand, the developers knew little about what Figma can do. So whenever the team met in the office, I ran a workshop, always on real examples from TWC. Later I ran them with the client too.

  1. 2025

    Card sorting with the client

A session with TwoContinents on the internal dashboard, after the business didn't back my first proposal.

Result: We found that my design didn't fully meet the project's original goals, so we simplified the flow before it was built and saved a lot of rework.

  2. 2025

    Product metrics

First a presentation on why success metrics matter. Then, instead of a 2-hour lecture, a workshop with quizzes, 4–5 slides and FigJam boards with timed tasks, built on TWC, our biggest client.

Result: It ended with applause and some friendly competition, and the team defined the key metrics to implement and test next.

  3. 2026

    Building a roadmap

A 2-hour workshop for the whole team, run together with Dominika, the junior designer I mentored.

Result: The team saw why everyone in the company needs to know where the product is heading, and why.
